John O'Reilly is a mainly self-taught artist who has contributed to an extremely vibrant and creative art scene within Dublin and Europe. Working with oils and aerosols he paints contemporary objects and landscapes. His abstract paintings are influenced by graffiti art and bring an urban experience to the canvas. In his own words: “My urban landscapes aim to portray serenity and reflection within environments of noise and clutter. They attempt to capture the pastoral like atmospheres of act
ive and dormant organs of the city and how nature maintains its relentless dominance over the built environment.”
He has exhibited at the RHA Annual Exhibition and his work can be found in the public collections of Dublin City Council, Irish Rail and the Electric Picnic Festival in Offaly. In 2009 curators of ev+a Angelika Nollert and Yilmaz Dziewior selected him as the only artist of 36 Irish and International participants to present paintings as part of that exhibition under the theme 'Reading the City'.
