Biography

Cork born Patrick Murray studied at the Crawford School of Art and fast became involved in all aspects of theatre production both in Ireland and abroad. Known mainly as a set designer, he was also credited in various productions for costume design, and worked on plays by Irish authors such as Patrick Galvin, John B. Keane and Hugh Leonard. Murray was a member of the Irish Arts Council from 1993-1995, was involved in the interior decoration of historic civic buildings, and was consulted for the
refurbishment of The Everyman Palace Theatre, Cork, in 2003. His set design for the 2006 pantomime at The Everyman, Sleeping Beauty, proved to be his last, as he died unexpectedly in his hometown. His lifetime achievements were recognised when the Dublin Gay Theatre Festival named an award for ‘outstanding contribution to Irish gay theatre’ after Murray.
