Born in Dublin in 1946, Richard has divided his time over the past 35 years between Dublin, Milan and Tokyo. His long relationship with Japan has been a major influence on his work, most notably with his use of handmade kozo washi paper to create large-scale works. Colour plays an important role in Gorman's work, in which he uses the bold tones of his geometric forms to contrast the delicate material of the paper on which they are rendered.
Richard has exhibited extensively throughout Europe
and Asia since the 1980’s, and in 2016, had a seminal exhibition in Castletown House to celebrate his 70th birthday. Richard Gorman is one of Ireland’s leading abstract painters today and is currently represented in many collections both private and public including the Ulster Museum, OPW, Deutsche Bank and the New York Public Library.
Richard Gorman is represented by the Kerlin Gallery, Dublin.
