A RARE 19TH CENTURY MEISSEN LIMOGES-STYLE EN GRISAILLE ENAMELLED PORCELAIN AMPHORA SHAPED VASE, IN THE MANNER OF ERNST AUGUST LEUTERITZ, blue crossed swords and impressed ''G.16 F'', cobalt blue ground, gold rims and gilt-enriched leaf wrapped handles, the body finely enamelled in the Renaissance style with Classical mythological scenes to each side, one side depicting lovers, possibly that of Chloris and Zephyrus in a two-horse drawn chariot accompanied by a figure, possibly that of Apollo bearing two flaming torches, signifying the fire of love, being led by the figure of Flora strewing the path with flower blossoms; the reverse depicting the lovers being pushed aside by the putto, a table gathering to their left hand side, raised on a circular spreading foot. 39.5cm high Ernst August Leuteritz was employed as a designer in 1836 and from 1849 to 1886 he held the post of Meissen's director and top modeller. Leuteritz resurrected the older rococo styles and created new models. His major influences on Meissen were foreign styles of p?te sur p?te of S?vres and the development of this en grisaille enamelling from Limoges enamel painting of Worcester. ''The outstanding modeller Leuteritz created some of the finest and largest pieces at the factory between 1843-86''.
