AN IRISH GEORGE III MAHOGANY FRAMED READING CHAIR, possibly Cork, the tub frame with a hinged reading table affixed to the back and having a ten bar open splat, the saddle shaped seat upholstered in green hide and raised on turned tapering legs with brass castors Provenance: The chair was acquired from Johnston Brothers at the 1973 Antiques Fair when Tony invested the Ebor Handicap winnings on Bonne Noel; from the estate of Tony Sweeney These chairs have been long termed ''Cockfighting Chairs'' and while this was not their primary use, it is quite credible that some owners would have had such chairs carried down from the library to the Pit, their construction rendering them well suited to the noting down of wagers.
