John Luke RUA (1906-1975) In Regents Park Oil on board, 17.5 x 23cm (7 x 9'') Signed and dated 1931 In Regent's Park is one of the few paintings to survive from John Luke's time in London and one of only two known depictions of the city. Painted just before his return to Belfast, when it passed into the collection of Romeo Toogood, it reveals an interest in Cézanne also demonstrated in works such as Ballysillan Road (c.1933). The simplified handling of the tree is also similar in both works and recurs again in The Dead Tree (c.1933).
